Outdoor track season opens with GrCo Early Bird meet

Greene County boys track coach Chad Morton was pleased with the efforts of the team’s first meet of the season, the Greene County Early Bird meet held at Linduska Field in Jefferson.

“I’m very happy with our team’s efforts. For our first meet, I couldn’t have asked for much more from our boys,” he said.

Bryce Stalder and Nathan Black set personal records in the long jump and high jump, respectively. Stalder placed first with a distance of 21’ 3”. Black and Kaleb Scott of Southeast Valley both cleared the bar at 6’ 4”, with first place going to Scott on the tie-breaker.

Jackson Morton won the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.29 seconds.

The 4X110m shuttle hurdle relay team placed first with a time of 1:04.66. Running the relay were Stalder, Jaxon Warnke, Black and Jackson Morton. Coach Morton noted that’s the fastest time a Greene County has posted in that relay in four years. The Rams also won the 4X400m relay, with the team of Luis Velazco, Morton, Richard Daugherty and Warnke putting together a time of 3:47.40.

The Rams placed second in the 4X200m relay with a time of 1:37.07, about 2.5 seconds behind North Polk. Daniel Rivera, Daugherty, Stalder and Black comprised the team.

The distance medley relay team of Morton, Black, Jesse Miller and Valazco place third with a time of 4:04.91. The winning time was South Hamilton’s 3:58.35. The 800m sprint medley team of Rivera, Daugherty, Miler and Warnke placed third in 1:40.45. North Polk won that relay in 1:38.83.

Other Ram events placing in the top 10 were:

  • 100m dash – Jose Velazco, 12.82, 8th place
  • 200m dash – Nathan Wailes, 25.46, 6th place
  • 400m dash – Gavin Scheuermann, 1:00.33, 7th place
  • Discus throw – Josh Ewalt, 110’ 11’, 6th; Noble Hoyt, 107’ 6”, 7th; Blake Hammen, 105’6”, 9th.

Teams at the meet, in addition to the host Rams, were Manson-Northwest Webster, North Polk, Southeast Valley, St Edmond of Fort Dodge, South Hamilton, Algona and Ogden. No team scores were kept.
